APC Members in Sokoto Jump Ship to ADC Amid Rising Disillusionment

In a notable political shift from Sokoto State, scores of members from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gada Local Government Area have defected to the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) a move that underscores growing frustration with the current federal administration.
On Sunday, these defectors were formally received by Senator Abubakar Gada, a key figure in the ADC coalition. In his remarks, he emphasized that the exodus from the APC reflects a deepening erosion of public confidence in the party’s governance.
Addressing the gathering, Senator Gada lamented the worsening insecurity and economic challenges facing communities—notably in Sokoto East—where farming, the lifeblood of local livelihoods, has been severely disrupted. He painted a stark picture of how insecurity has triggered a ripple effect of poverty, unemployment, and hunger.
Framed by the ADC as a credible alternative to current leadership, the defections signal a broader appetite among Nigerians for fresh governance. Senator Gada asserted that ADC offers a platform capable of tackling insecurity head-on, reviving the economy, and restoring citizens’ confidence.
This defection fits into a wider pattern: dissatisfaction with the APC has catalyzed political realignments across the country. In Sokoto State, where Governor Ahmad Aliyu of the APC took office in 2023, questions of security and economic stability remain front of mind. Similar discontent has played out elsewhere, including high-profile shifts like that of former AGF Malami and other prominent figures joining the ADC earlier this year.
Agriculture is not just an industry in Sokoto it’s the backbone of many households. When farmlands become no-go zones because of banditry or terrorist threats, food security becomes national security. These defections thus reflect not just political disapproval, but a cry for leadership that delivers safety and stability.
In Gada LGA, the APC’s loss is more than numerical—it’s symbolic. As members seek refuge in the ADC, they carry with them community disillusionment, economic despair, and a desire for transformative governance. ADC’s reception of these members signals growing momentum, positioning it as an appealing alternative ahead of future elections. For Sokoto—and indeed Nigeria—security isn’t just a campaign promise; it’s a survival imperative. Whether this surge in defections represents a turning of the political tide remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: many Nigerians are voting with their feet.

Abba Moro: PDP Ticket Awaits Obi in 2027 If He Comes Back

Senator Abba Moro, representing Benue South, says that former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi could be in a position to secure the Peoples Democratic Party’s ticket for the 2027 presidential election if he decides to return to the party. Moro emphasized that Obi’s political resurgence hinges on such a move, suggesting that his current platform may not offer the same opportunity.
This statement comes amid growing whispers about Obi’s future in Nigeria’s political arena. With the PDP’s presidential ticket slated for the south in 2027, speculation has mounted that Obi’s return to the party could align with that zoning arrangement. Moro’s remarks reinforce the view that Obi’s candidacy stands a stronger chance within PDP’s structure than in his current role outside the party fold.
But not everyone sees a clear path forward for Obi, even within PDP. Some sources say his prospects remain uncertain suggesting that other figures, including former President Goodluck Jonathan, might be considered more likely beneficiaries of the party’s southern zoning strategy.
Complicating matters further, a spokesperson for the African Democratic Congress a coalition that includes Obi warned that returning to PDP could be politically risky. The warning stems from concerns about lingering influence by the ruling party over PDP’” internal affairs.
Meanwhile, party insiders say the PDP hasn’t actively reached out to Obi but remains open to welcoming him back. The party’s leadership insists they won’t go out of their way to solicit his return but the door remains ajar should he choose to walk through it.
In essence, Abba Moro’s comments underscore a political fork in the road for Obi: return to PDP and face a viable shot at the nomination, or stay the course outside and risk seeing that opportunity slip away.

Why PDP Refused to Discipline Wike: Inside the Party’s Democratic Dilemma

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has explained why it has not taken disciplinary action against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, despite persistent calls from critics within the party.
Speaking on a television programme, PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba said the party is committed to democratic principles and cannot operate like a military command structure. According to him, the PDP believes in resolving internal disputes through dialogue, fairness, and due process rather than hasty punitive measures.
“We are following through and solving our problems methodically in a democratic way,” Ologunagba stressed, adding that the PDP is not a one-man party where decisions are imposed from the top.
The statement reflects the PDP’s long-standing approach of handling internal disagreements carefully. Rather than rushing to sanction powerful figures like Wike, the party insists on formal processes, usually requiring petitions or internal resolutions before the disciplinary committee can act.
This cautious posture has angered many within the PDP. Some argue that the party’s credibility has been weakened by its reluctance to sanction Wike, who openly challenged the party during the 2023 elections. Critics claim the leadership is too timid and influenced by Wike’s loyalists within the party structure.
The matter highlights deeper fractures within the PDP. On one side are leaders pushing for discipline and accountability; on the other are those prioritising party unity and institutional procedure. Balancing both has proved difficult as the party seeks to remain a viable opposition force ahead of future elections.
By choosing restraint, the PDP signals that it values internal democracy over political expediency. Yet this same restraint continues to fuel frustration among members who believe the party must show stronger leadership if it hopes to regain power nationally.
