Rhodes-Vivour Rejects Alliance with Tinubu for 2027 Lagos Governorship

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party’s 2023 Lagos governorship candidate, has firmly stated he will not align with President Bola Tinubu to secure the Lagos State governorship in 2027. In a recent interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Rhodes-Vivour emphasized that such a move would be a “complete waste of time.”

He expressed a commitment to improving the lives of Lagosians and restoring the state’s former glory, which he believes has been overshadowed by what he termed “agberocracy”—a system of political patronage and control. Rhodes-Vivour criticized any party unwilling to prioritize the commonwealth of Lagos for the benefit of its people.

Recently, Rhodes-Vivour defected from the Labour Party to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), aiming to challenge the ruling party. He confirmed that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, was aware of his decision to join the ADC.

When asked about his plans for the 2027 governorship election, Rhodes-Vivour responded, “by God’s grace,” indicating his intention to run under the ADC banner.

His stance highlights the ongoing political dynamics in Lagos State as the 2027 elections approach, with opposition parties positioning themselves to challenge the dominance of the ruling party
